If you operate a farm business, manufacture food, beverage or bio-products, or operate a non-profit entity in the agricultural sector, you could be eligible for significant funding through the Growing Forward 2 (GF2) program.
GF2 is a five-year, $3 Billion investment by federal, provincial and territorial governments to support the Canadian agricultural industry. Through the GF2 framework, applicants may access grants for a wide variety activities includingtraining, marketing, land and facilities upgrades, equipment purchases, new product development, certifications and assessments, IT systems implementation, and more. Funding is provided on a cost-sharing basis of 35% to 50% of eligible project costs up to a maximum of $350,000.
On the provincial level, funding is concentrated into six priority areas:
- Environment and climate change adaption
- Animal and plant health
- Assurance systems
- Market development
- Labour and productivity enhancement
- Business and leadership development
Federal funding is also available for innovative research and product development, as well as export marketing and promotional activities. Deadlines and funding limits vary by stream. The next intake deadline for Ontario producer projects is July 7, 2016.
